Your clients don't care about you

real estate marketing by PrinterbeesI know this sounds quit harsh, but it is true and someone had to say it. When you consider "sales 101", the number one rule of thumb is to remember that prospects/clients really don't care about YOU! What they care about is….WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR THEM.

When you are marketing your real estate business and considering what exactly to market about yourself, it is important to take YOU out of the equation in your marketing messages. Your marketing messages should include and be focused around WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP THE PROSPECT. That is, if you want your prospects to be more likely to contact you.

Consider the following few examples

  • Do people really care how many awards you have received? I think not, celebrate your awards with friends, family and the clients who helped you achieve those awards
  • Do they care that you were in the "top 10%"? No, I don't think so.
  • What about the fact that you have seven different phone numbers they can reach you on because you are so important you have to display all of them? Not even. Having too many numbers listed on anything just confuses people.
  • Are you prospects going to call you because you put "call me" on your marketing pieces? No, what they need is a reason to WANT to call you over the other 10 Realtors(r) who put the same type of postcard in their mailbox.

Because at PrinterBees we see so many different types of marketing messages/pieces and collect anything and everything that comes to our own mailboxes, we see a good variety of real estate marketing. The best marketing messages are clear, concise, simple and tell the prospect/client HOW YOU CAN HELP THEM.

People make purchasing decisions for two very simple reasons:

  1. They are avoiding pain. i.e. "I am going to loose my house", "I am upside down in my home and can no longer afford the payments", "my spouse lost his/her job and we can't afford to live her anymore", "we have outgrown our home and need more space". I'm sure you get the picture.
  2. They are seeking pleasure - i.e. "I finally landed my dream job and can now afford to buy, move up, relocate, etc.", "we've saved up enough for a down payment and are ready to buy our own home", "I want to live the American Dream and own a home of my own".

When you revisit your marketing pieces that you have sent out or plan to send out, ask yourself. "Are my marketing messages about ME or the people I am serving or wish to serve?"
