Business Card Design Help
I am often asked as I design business cards what should or should not be included on a business card to make it the most appealing, so I thought I would write a blog about it.
I see many business cards because we design so many of them and I have some definite opinions on the matter based on many of the questions I receive.
1. Should I include my head shot?
Yes! you should definitely include your head shot on your business card, BUT there are some rules here that apply. Your head shot should not look like a "glamor shot" ladies. Your head shot should simply look like you. Because I also take head shot photos, I would also like to say that you SHOULD NOT go to the stylist to have them style your hair in a way that doesn't look like you. What is the point of having a head shot if it simply doens't look like you. Guys…your head shot should not look like a mug shot. I could go on and on about this subject, and will save that for another blog post.
2. I want all 27 phone numbers that I have on my business card.
no…no…no…no. If you always answer your cell phone and that is where all your numbers point to, then have your cell phone listed on your card and that is it. If you office phone rings on your cell when you don't answer it, then put only your office phone. Or, simply put your direct office line, your cell phone and your fax. That's it people, don't confuse people with too many phone numbers.
3. I have an Efax, and I want to list a "fax number" and my "Efax".
First of all, so many people are confused with the term Efax and think they have to have some sort of technology to send you a fax. An eFax is just a fax number that comes to your email and works the same as any other fax number, so don't confuse people and put one fax number that says "fax".
4. I want to put my assistants information on my card too.
That's fine, put it on the back side of your business card. The cost is less than $5 to add a color backside to your card. This will keep your card from looking cluttered.
5. What should I put on the back of my card?
Many people put the saying about appreciating referrals. Some people put tip charts. Appointment reminders are good. Listing documents needed for a loan appointment or real estate appointment help the people who have your card prepare for upcoming meetings. Something that sets your company/business apart from others is good.
6. Should I have color or a plain white card?
This is a personal preference, and I think business cards should have color. My reason for this is because your business card is more likely to stand out in "the stack" if it has color and is unique from other business cards. It is easy for a person to locate your card in a stack of business cards if your business card design has color.
7. Don't forget your website address.
Your web address is not only important, it is crucial. People want to know that you are a "real business" that has a website. If you don't have a website in this day and age, GET ONE. It creates validity in your business. If your website is outdated and old, UPDATE IT. This is the year 2008 and you must have a website.
